ECAP Convoys

With the lack of statistics on the incidence of sudden cardiac death in Egypt, we sought of identifying potential victims of SCD in order to define the magnitude of the problem and deliver appropriate diagnostic and preventive programs.

Our goals were :

To approximate estimation of sudden cardiac arrest incidence in Egyptian population through pilot studies conducted through medical convoys:

1- Pilot study from 2015 to 2016,Total number 8786 subjects:

“Screening general population for family history of sudden cardiac death unmasks high risk individuals as potential victims ”

The Egyptian Journal of Critical Care Medicine, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2018

CONCOLUSION:

1.Family history of CAD,DM and HTN head the list of risk factors more frequently associated with family history of SCD clearly pointing the role played by those comorbidities in pointing to potential victims of SCD

2.Our findings are in agreement with many epidemiological , retrospective , prospective and angiographic studies which have all clearly demonstrated a familial aggregation for CAD

3.A family history of recurrent premature SCD or inheritable heart disease represent a “red flag” that makes familial evaluation strongly recommended

2- Prospective Preliminary study

  • Based on the pilot study data and aiming to estimate the magnitude of SCD problem in EGYPT and by searching for potential victims, this prospective study were conducted from 2017 till 2021 on 8759 random subjects representing upper and coastal cities of Egypt
  • Data were collected by a questionnaire and clinical examination, ECG ,Laboratory investigations and echocardiography studies during medical convoys were collected through 54 medical convoys.
